Even by giving a patient a day-old drug, a patient can still get sick.One of the important areas in hospitals where pharmaceuticals are purchased, stored, compounded, dispensed, manufactured, tested, packaged, and distributed is the hospital pharmacy. This department is also in charge of conducting research in pharmaceutical science and education, which is done under the supervision of qualified pharmacists. The economics of health costs are significantly influenced by the hospital pharmacy. The hospital pharmacy now offers both medication monitoring services and drug information services. The hospital pharmacist is competent in drug procurement, handling, pricing, and dispensing. Additionally, pharmacists serve as a liaison between patients and doctors and offer drug information to the public and all other healthcare professionals. Pharmacy staff at hospitals offer guidelines for buying drugs, chemical and biological therapies, etc.Additionally, they are in charge of producing and dispensing medications such transfusion fluids, parenteral products, pills, capsules, ointments, stock combinations, and safe drug storage. Hospital pharmacists have the ability to sterilise and dispense parenteral drugs made in hospitals. All medicine containers are filled, labelled, and distributed by them. Hospital pharmacists are in charge of purchasing medications, ensuring that they are stored safely, keeping records, and distributing medications to the outpatient department. Hospital pharmacists also participate in the hospital’s research programmed and provide medication monitoring services for inpatients.It is expected of hospital pharmacy departments to efficiently prepare, dispense, and distribute pharmaceuticals. Therefore, procedures and rules must be in place to ensure the safe handling of medications. All patients can receive services from hospital pharmacies. These services include distributing and dispensing medication, processing medication orders, offering drug information services, taking part in programmes for quality improvement, taking part in hospital activities, and making sure that pharmaceuticals are available at reasonable prices. In contrast, community pharmacists and hospital pharmacists in Odisha City were compared for job satisfaction and stress levels, and the results showed that hospital pharmacists reported higher levels of job satisfaction than community pharmacists.
